Laurel brings a variety of business and volunteer experience to the CRCF Board. A resident of Campbell River for 27 years, she has worked as an elementary school teacher and gifted resource teacher for SD72 and as a fitness instructor with the City of Campbell River. A past avid triathlete, Laurel competed in and coached adults in the sport of triathlon and co-created and coached the Rapids, a youth triathlon club in Campbell River for 10 years. Eight years ago, she started her own company – Island Joy Rides – a boutique cycle and kayak tour company that promotes active travel and connection to the food, places, and people in our region. In addition to her business, Laurel is the cochair of the Campbellton Neighbourhood Association; a founding member of CR Connect, a local group connecting newcomers, visitors, and residents with CR locals who are passionate about building community; a Rotarian; and she recently spearheaded the Friends of the Greenways Loop committee. As Winston Churchill and the CRCF website remind us, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
